Department Description

1- The Department of Communications and Electronics Engineering includes two branches: the first is the Communications Branch and the second is the Electronics Branch. Both branches share the courses of the first three years, after which each branch specializes in courses that serve its own specialized knowledge, producing either an engineer with a knowledge base in communications or an engineer with a knowledge base in electronics.

2- Department Mission: The Department of Communications and Electronics Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Latakia University seeks to graduate effective and distinguished engineering cadres scientifically and practically, characterized by engineering professional ethics, and to provide a distinguished recognized educational environment with precise specialization for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and to work on the optimal investment of the university's resources and capabilities with the aim of advancing the course and march of scientific research in the fields of communications and electronics engineering, encouraging research creativity, and embodying partnership with the industrial sector to meet labor market needs, so that this department becomes one of the tools for the development and prosperity of society. It also aims to provide a university environment stimulating intellectual, scientific, and research creativity in order to reach academic accreditation nationally and internationally, and to be a reference for engineering services and consultations related to this specialization in the governorate in particular and in the country in general. The program also aims to be flexible so as to ensure permanent and continuous interaction with society.

3- Department Objectives: The department's teaching plan aims to:

1- Build a scientifically competent communications engineer capable of working efficiently in all branches of communications and able to pursue postgraduate studies and scientific research in several fields of communications.

2- Build a scientifically competent electronics engineer capable of working efficiently in all fields that require an electronics engineer and able to pursue postgraduate studies and scientific research in several electronic fields.

3- Strengthen the following core competencies: • The ability to accurately understand the problem and reach an appropriate methodology for solution. • Mathematical mental abilities. • Informational abilities. • Communication with the surroundings. • The ability to work in a team.

4- Develop a positive attitude toward learning.

5- Self-assessment and development, and continuous monitoring and development of the study plan.

4- Department Vision: The department's vision includes the following points:

• Preparing engineers with academic, research, and applied competence in accordance with the requirements of society and the labor market.

• Keeping abreast of the latest modern technologies in the fields of communications and electronics with the aim of benefiting from and investing them to develop higher education curricula.

• Achieving quality requirements in the educational process in order to reach academic accreditation nationally and internationally.

• The department should have an advanced and competitive position at the national, regional, and international levels.

• Strengthening scientific ties with similar departments at the national, regional, and international levels.

5- Knowledge Domains of the Study Plan in the Department of Communications and Electronics Engineering: The study plan in the Department of Communications and Electronics Engineering includes the domain of general courses, the domain of fundamentals of electronic engineering, the domain of electronic circuits, the domain of fundamentals of communications engineering, the domain of antennas and wave propagation, the domain of transmission networks and data transfer, the domain of communications systems, the domain of communications applications and technologies, the domain of optical and medical electronics, the domain of integrated electronic circuits and systems on a chip, and the domain of modern topics in both communications and electronics.
