Graduate student M. Daniel Youssef Youssef obtained a master's degree in communications engineering after passing the final public defense on 4.7.2023 at 12:00 in the Seminar Hall at Al-Hamak College in front of the judging committee consisting of Messrs. Haitham Al-Radwan, Dr. Mohamed Anbar, Dr. Bushra Mualla. The student obtained an honors degree with a score of 95%.

Dissertation Title: Evaluation of the Performance of Machine Learning Techniques in Detecting LDoS Attacks in SDN Networks

The study was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Bushra Maalla, Department of Communications Engineering, Tishreen University

The following is a summary of the dissertation:

SDN is still not mature enough, especially from a security standpoint, and can easily become a major target for many attacks, such as denial-of-service attacks that reduce and block network services and make them unavailable to users, or they may also be a gateway to other attacks.

In this study, we present an evaluation of a set of machine learning algorithms in detecting LDoS attacks in SDN networks, where cybersecurity systems can analyze patterns and learn from them, to help prevent similar attacks and respond to changing behavior. This can help cybersecurity research teams be more proactive in preventing threats and responding to active attacks in real time.

The student achieved an external publication of an article entitled "Evaluating the Performance of Machine Learning Techniques in Detecting LDoS Attacks in SDN Networks" in the Arab Journal of Sciences & Research Publishing, with an impact coefficient: 0.0488 and indexed in EBSCO Information Services.
