A graduate of the Applied College, Ahmed Satouf Taha, won second place in the 20th edition of the Al-Basil Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, which was held in Damascus a few days ago on the electricity axis for his project / designing a Darius turbine to generate electric power through wind.

Taha explains about his project that it is a vertical-axis wind turbine characterized by its simplicity and ease of design. It consists of a steel base, an axis, three blades, high speed, and an electric generator that converts mechanical energy into electrical.

It explains the main advantages of this turbine..the possibility of placing the generator and the gearbox close to the ground and the absence of the need for a tower for the turbine, the absence of the need for a twisting mechanism to rotate the rotor towards the wind.

He shows that the project is a vertical axis of rotation that operates on the principle of (Darius), where the Darius rotor rotates due to the aerodynamic lifting force affecting its blades with streamlined sections that make it rotate at high rotational speeds suitable for the work of electric generators, but this rotor is characterized on the other hand by a weak take-off torque at Small values of wind speed, and this rotor is characterized by simple design and ease of manufacturing at a relatively low material cost, which makes it suitable for generating electric power, especially in areas isolated from the public network in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.
